Camellia Rachelle Jackson (“Shell”) was born to Willie Lois and Joe Morris Turner. Shell was their only biological child. Shell graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1975. She then attended East Texas State University, where she proudly became a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. In 1978, Shell married her high school sweetheart, Marshall F. Jackson. To this union was born their only child, Zanzi Bree. Zanzi was certainly the light of her life and her best friend. Shell was young at heart, and loved hanging out with Zanzi. Marshall would remind her from time to time that she was Zanzi’s mother, and that they were not peers. But they had so much fun together.
In the beginning of their marriage, Marshall owned several clothing stores and other businesses. Shell would assist when needed. Later he went into corporate management with VF Outlet and for the next twenty-seven (27) years, she supported him…. moving to Reading, Pennsylvania, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and Atlanta, Georgia. She worked as Manager of Prestige Cosmetics in Reading and Casual Corners in Rehoboth Beach. When Marshall took a promotion with VF Outlet in Atlanta, Shell’s last ten (10) years of employment would be with T.J. Maxx Corporation.
Shell loved music, dancing, traveling and entertaining. And Marshall loved making her happy. Their home was always open to family and friends….and of course, decorated for each and every holiday. But never without our traditional soul train line. She was certainly still a big kid, one that we have all loved, spoiled, and will miss forever.
On Tuesday, January 31, 2017, Shell was called to glory. As unexpected as it was, we must all remember who has the last word. She is preceded in death by her mother, Willie Lois (“Billie”); and brother, Robert Dan; and leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Marshall; daughter, Zanzi; father, Joe Morris; sister, Frances (Bobby); brother, Joe Lee (Vivian); sister-in-law Debra (James); brother-law, Harold; nieces, Kimbre and Joya, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
