Freddie Lawrence Smith, Sr. was born January 13, 1935 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas to Emerson and Lee Ethel (Harderman) Smith.  He passed away, at home, on Monday, November 21, 2016 in Mt. Pleasant.

Freddie graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1953.  He met and married Betty Turner Smith and to this union two children were born Mary Ethel and Freddie Jr.   He was a member of the Cottrell Chapel C.M.E. Church, Mt. Pleasant where he served as a Trustee and Steward.  He later became a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Mt. Pleasant. He was a retired Truck Driver having worked for Chapman Trucking Company and for Titus County.  Freddie was a honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother Bobby Joe Smith, his sister Imogene Simmons.

He leaves to cherish his memories and to celebrate his life one daughter and son-in-law Mary Ethel and Harold Hooks, Sr. of Longview, Texas; one son Freddie L. Smith, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; four grandchildren Terrie Sanders and her husband Adam of Dallas, Texas; Chiquita Rousseau and her husband Robert of Kilgore, Texas; Harold Hooks, Jr.  and Kishanna Smith both of Longview, Texas; one great grandchild Ja’Mia Hooks of Longview, Texas; one sister Mary Catherine Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; nieces Beverly Smith (Amos Brown) of Mt. Pleasant; Darphenia Evans (Tony) of Grand Prairie, TX; great nieces Temeka Blake, Courtney Evans, Chevonte Marshall; and a host of great great nieces and a great nephew; cousin Jodie Davis of Columbus, OH; special friend Dorothy Davis and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
