Mattie Lena (Justice) Ross was born March 13, 1941 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas to Morris Sr. and Alma (Attaway) Justice.  She passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas.                                                                                                                                                                  

Mattie was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1959.  She met and married Amos Ross, Jr.  on June 12, 1968.  They were married 45 years.  He preceded her in death on April 10, 2014.   In her early years, she was a member of the St. Paul A.M.E. Church and later became a member of the Greater Hope Church of God in Christ, Mt. Pleasant.  Mattie worked many years at Gera’s Nursing Home and Currey’s Nursing Home here in Mt. Pleasant.  She also worked in the Private Home sector for many years before retiring.

She was preceded in death by: her father and mother, a daughter Camilla S. Ross, her husband Amos Ross, Jr.; her brothers Samuel Justice, Marvin A. Justice, Tommie Justice, Boyd Justice. 

She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters and one son-in-law Martha and Milton Gholston of Killeen, Texas; Rosemary Fields and Patricia D. Ross both of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; one son Samuel D. Fields of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; twelve grandchildren Fred Gholston, La Kesha Gholston, Rocha Gholston, Christopher Gholston, Angie Gholston, Kiosio Fields, Samuel Fields, Jr.; Dominique Fields-Spigner, Kendrick Jeffery, Sedrick Hines, Antione Ross, Breanna Stephens;   eight great grandchildren; three sisters Alma Ree Tumey, Jewel Moore and Bobbie Ann Morgan all of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; two brothers and four sisters-in-law Bartel and Hazel Justice; Morris Justice, Jr. all of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; Etta Justice of Dallas, Texas and Rosemary Rogers of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; Margaret Armour Justice of Pittsburg, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
