Howard Hawkins was born December 26, 1938 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas to Lorenzo and Valerie (Hawkins) Baker and passed away, peacefully, on February 27, 2024 in Houston.
Howard was a 1958 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Mt. Pleasant. He graduated from Jarvis Christian College in 1962 with a BS degree in General Science. In November of 1965, he enlisted and served in the US Army before being honorably discharged. He went on to receive his Masters Degree and then his doctorate Degree from TSU. He was a teacher and coach for New Waverly and Waller ISD before becoming the Principal at Waller Jr. High and Waller High School. He was a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He was a faithful member at St. Peters Baptist Church, Hempstead, Texas and after returning home to Mt. Pleasant he joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 56 years Dorisula Hawkins.
Howard is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law; Darrell and Nina Hawkins of Richmond, Texas, Derek and Jessica Hawkins of Buda, Texas; six grandchildren Hunter Hawkins, Desmond Hawkins, Zoey Hawkins, Lucas Hawkins, Addison Hawkins, Audrey Hawkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
