He was born in Mt. Pleasant, Texas on December 12, 1941 to Eddie and Hazel (Hayes) Lewis.  He attended Booker T. Washington Schools, Mt. Pleasant.  He was a member of Piney Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; paternal and maternal grandparents; a brother Charles Lewis. 

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 17 years Annie M. Todd, step son Alton Todd, his stepdaughter and her husband Thelma and Irvin Frazier, step grandson Rodney Todd all of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; a special niece Linda Morrow of Hughes Springs, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
