Betty Turner Smith was born on September 10, 1934, to L.T. Turner and Maryliza Lee Younger.
She attended Booker T. Washington high school and retired from Pilgrim’s Pride after working over 30 years at the company. She was a faithful member of Cottrell Chapel C.M.E. Church in Mt. Pleasant Texas and was also a member of The Lady Mujaji Club since 1987, a member of Wisdom Circle, and an active member of Booker T, Washington Alumni Association and an active member in her community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings William “WT” Turner, Linda K. Turner Hargrave, Earnest Marie “Love” Weeks and Booker T. Younger Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her only daughter Mary E. Hooks and son in law Harold Hooks Sr of Longview, Texas; her only son Freddie L. Smith Jr. or Mt. Pleasant, Texas; her four grandchildren Terrie Hooks-Sanders and her husband Adam Sanders of Dallas, Texas, ChiQuita Rousseau and her husband Robert Rousseau of Kilgore, Texas, Harold “Jay” Hooks Jr. of Longview, Texas, and her youngest grandchild Kishanna Smith of Longview, Texas. She has two great-grandchildren Ja’Mia and Julius Hooks children of Harold Hooks Jr. of Longview. Betty also leaves to cherish her living siblings Carolyn McGinnis and Billye Muriel Turner both of Dallas Texas, a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, relatives, church members, and friends including her best friend Dorothy Nixon and her children and grandchildren.
