Brenda Walker Rhymes was born to Maurice and Georgia Walker in Mount Pleasant, Texas on May 29, 1951. Brenda passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 in Dallas, Texas after a battle with cancer.
Brenda attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1969. After graduation from High school, Brenda went to work for American Petrofina Oil Company in Dallas, Texas in the billing department. From there she went on to work for the City of Dallas in the City Attorney’s office which she began a 35-year legal career. In 1974 she went to work for O’Melveny & Myers in Los Angeles, California where she got her official legal training.
Over 35 years Brenda worked for some of the largest law firms in Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas. She ended her career at Weil, Gotshal & Manges in Dallas, Texas on May 6, 2006.
After retirement Brenda, her husband John and their two chihuahuas, Yoda and Keba embarked on adventures almost every year thereafter to Yellowstone National Park (staying in Paradise Valley, Montana), Glacier National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Monument Valley, Canyonlands and Arches National Parks, Pike Peak, the Moki Dugway and several trips on the Beartooth Highway and Going To The Sun Road.
Brenda leaves to mourn her passing her husband John Thomas Rhymes of Santa Fe, New Mexico; son Anwar Maurice Walker and mother Georgia Walker both of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; daughter Crystal Rhymes of Orlando, Florida; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild; brother Larry Walker and his wife Avonne of Missouri City, Texas; sister Elizabeth A. Walker of Dallas, Texas; nieces Tara Hall of Dallas, Texas, Tiffany Hall of New York, New York, Brittany Walker of Seattle, Washington, nephews Larry and Jonathan Walker of Houston, Texas; grandnieces Bella Walker of Seattle, Washington; Ariel Davis of San Antonio, Texas; Addison Walker of Houston, Texas; grandnephews Cayden Walker and Sebastian Walker of Houston, Texas; best friend Sharon Jones Watkins of Dallas, Texas; cousin Carlos Johnson of Newtown, California and a host of aunts, uncles, other cousins, other relatives and friends.
