Dennis was once a son and brother…then a husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Those who knew him in the spring and winter seasons of his life are blessed to have experienced an amazing carefree busy man who loved fixing things, working outside and helping anyone that asked. He will be remembered for having a “heart of gold”. We now celebrate a life well lived.
Dennis was born October 10, 1951 in Naples, Texas to the parents of Napoleon and Katherine Martin. His early childhood education was at George Washington Carver and graduated from Paul Pewitt High school in 1970. His employment was with Morris County National Bank and Paul Pewitt CISD until his retirement in March 2018.
He married Glenda Mickens and to this union two children were born, Che’ Martin and Shagitta (Gee) Martin. Later in life he married his high school classmate, Gloria Harris with three bonus children.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Napoleon and Katherine Martin, two sisters, Barbara (Barb) Merriweather, Peggy Martin McCoo and a loving grandson, Aagion (Double AA) Martin.
He accepted Christ and attended Norris Curry CME church with his parents and siblings, then later joined William’s Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and on the cemetery committee.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 23 years, Gloria Martin, son Che’ (Ruthie) Martin, daughter Shagitta Martin and three beautiful grandchildren Breana, Cameron and Brodie III, three bonus children, Tiffani, Christopher (Chanda) and Damon Jones, five bonus grandchildren Morgan, Kolbi’, Tyler, Christian and Gavin; four sisters, Helen, Patricia, Mary D, and Mary L. (Willie B.); three loving nephews that were raised with him as brothers, Mark (Peggy), Jack Martin, Don (Lisa) Martin and one loving niece that was raised with him as a sister, Jan; one loving aunt, Pat Belle and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
