Dorisula Hawkins Obituary

Dr. Dorisula Hawkins, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, Texas passed away Sunday, May 17, 2020 in Texarkana, Texas. Dorisula (Sue) Hawkins was born on November 15, 1941 and the youngest of four children to Wilbur and Artesia Wooten. She was raised in Mt. Pleasant Texas where she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School to later receive a Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate from Jarvis Christian College, Prairie View A& M University and The University of Houston respectively. After over 30 years as an educator and professor living in Prairie View Texas, she returned home and lived in Mt. Pleasant with her husband of 56 years, Howard Hawkins. Sue loved taking vacations with her entire family, playing cards (spades, pinochle and bid wiz) and supporting her son’s in everything they did. The three things Sue loved more than that was serving the Lord, loving Howard and promoting education. Dorisula was a dedicated member of her community and a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist church, Lady Mujaji Social Club and many other organizations and honors societies. Dorisula is preceded in death by her parents; brother Arthur Wooten; sisters, Mary Miller and Doris Crabtree. Along with her husband Howard, Dorisula leaves behind her two sons Darrell Hawkins (Nina), Derek Hawkins (Jessica) and six grandchildren; Hunter, Desmond, Zoey, Lucas, Addison and Audrey along with other loving relatives and friend.
