Gavin Alexander Brooks-Thompson was born on July 13, 2009, in Mount Pleasant, Texas, to Sheniqua Dar’Briel Brooks and LaSedric Thompson. He transitioned from this life on June 21, 2026, at the age of 16.

Gavin was a faithful member of Sunset Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, Texas, where he faithfully served as an usher. He was preparing to begin his senior year at Mount Pleasant High School as a member of the Class of 2027. During his time at Mount Pleasant High School, Gavin played football and basketball, participated in the band and track, and enjoyed being involved in school activities. In his spare time, he loved fishing, riding horses, and spending time with family and friends.

Gavin was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Sheniqua Dar’Briel Brooks; his great-grandparents, Margretta and Rev. John M. Brooks, Billy Ralph Davis and Charlie Marie Payne, Earlene and Oscar Rivers, and Choice and Videlia Thompson; his uncles, Billy Brooks, Twilver Thompson, Clyde Payne, Billy Jewel Davis, and Trent Davis; his aunt, Diane Davis; and his cousin Twan Thompson.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving father, LaSedric Thompson; his brothers, Tywon Walker of Mount Pleasant, Texas, and Deon Thompson (Casondra) of Barstow, California; his sister, Lakedra Smith of Mesquite, Texas; his grandparents, Perry and Donna Brooks and Margaret King, all of Mount Pleasant, Texas, and Choyce Thompson Jr. (Jane) of Sulphur Springs, Texas. Uncles and aunts Chaun Thompson (Faith) of Sachse, Texas; Chardon Thompson; Teresa Young, James and Candias Webster, Dee Dee Godbolt, Tabitha Godbolt, Jermaine Brooks.

He also leaves his great-aunts and great-uncles: Minnie Young and Jean King, Carl King, Gwen and Donnie Harvey, all of Mount Pleasant, Texas; Lavean and Stacey Brooks of Little Elm, Texas; Mary and Joe Castorena, Frances Hooks, Shirley Brown, Wanda Payne, all of Mount Pleasant, Texas; of Mount Pleasant, Texas; Larry Davis, Rev. Carl and Katrina Davis, and Michael and Hope Davis, all of Mount Pleasant, Texas; Angelia and Larry McKinney of Longview, Arthur and Wanda Thompson of Kansas City, Missouri, Verta Ruth Thompson, Ray and Chandra Thompson all of Austin, Texas; Ocie Thompson of Mt. Pleasant, Texas.

He also leaves his special aunt and uncle, Telesa and John Morgan; Chris Grundy, his cousins, Ashley Brown, Shay and Kyen Morgan, Martha Gutierrez, and Michelle Gutierrez; and, in order not to overlook anyone who held a special place in his heart, Gavin dearly loved all of his classmates and friends, and they loved him in return. Along with a host of other loving relatives and friends, they will forever cherish his life, his smile, and the memories he leaves behind.

Though Gavin’s life was brief, it was filled with love, laughter, kindness, and promise. His gentle spirit, warm smile, and caring heart touched the lives of many and will never be forgotten.
