James Arthur Byrd Sr.

James A. Byrd, Sr., was born August 10, 1928 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas to Lucille Jones and Charles Byrd, Sr. He passed away, peacefully, on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Paris Regional Medical Center, Paris, Texas. 

He was a lifelong deacon of The Church of the Living God.   In his early years, he was employed at the soda fountain store in Mt. Pleasant, Texas.  He was later employed as an Ammunition Supervisor at Red River Army Depot, Texarkana, Texas.  He achieved many recognitions and awards.

 He was preceded in death by two sons James A. Byrd, Jr. and John Byrd, daughter Vanessa Byrd, four siblings: Bennie Byrd, Geneva Shelley, Charlie Byrd, Jr., and Margie Matson.

Mr. Byrd was married and divorced from Florine L. Byrd and to this union five children were born:  James A. Byrd Jr., Debra E. Byrd, Yolanda L. Byrd, Vanessa Byrd and John Byrd.

James leaves to cherish his memories two daughters Debra Byrd and Yolanda Byrd both of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren;  of very special mention:  Marilyn Matson, Chris and Tina Matson, Tammie Matson, Cynthia Autry, April and Jessie Ivory, Jackie and Eddie Braziel, Tabitha Autry , Margo Autry, Ray Ray Williams, and Kay Wilburn.  He also leaves a host of  nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Mr.  Byrd’s light was bright.  We will certainly miss it.  Until we see you again.
