Obituary
Jimmie Mae Harris
August 28th, 1922 to March 11th, 2020
Jimmie Mae Harris, originally from Omaha, Texas, passed away in Stockbridge, GA on Wednesday March 11, 2020, at the age of 97 while surrounded by family. She is survived by her beloved daughter and niece whom she raised as her own. A public viewing will be held 10 AM to 6 PM at Tumey Mortuary on March 27th. However, due to unprecedented global circumstances, it is with heavy hearts the family must hold a private funeral service, limited to the closest members of the family.
Jimmie Mae was born on August 28th, 1922 in Omaha, Texas to Climmie and Jim Burns. She was a loving mother of two girls, Delores and Joyce, and niece Renee. Jimmie Mae was preceded in death by her mother and father, two sisters (Daisy and Lanissia), her husband (Willie D) and youngest daughter (Joyce).
Jimmie Mae was a devoted member of the Omaha First Baptist Church. Faith was a very important aspect in her life and she was very active in the church. She served as an usher there for 42 years and received an appreciation award in 2000 for her outstanding service.
In 1951, Jimmie Mae started working at Paul Pewitt School doing what she loved best -- cooking. Over the years she became a cafeteria manager there until she retired in 1991 after 40 years of service. She loved her job and all the students she came in contact with. She was always advising them on their conduct and to always do their best.
With this same compassionate spirit, we will do our best to honor her memory given the unprecedented circumstances we are in at this time. We know that Jimmie Mae would want everyone to be safe and remain out of harm’s way. In honor of her memory, please take this time to reflect on how precious life is, take care of yourself and your loved ones, like she has taken care of so many throughout her life.
