Joe Edward Lewis, Sr. was born April 14, 1948, to the late Gavin and Ruth Lewis. He received his formal education from Cheatham High School and was a self-taught auto mechanic and carpenter.
Joe met the love of his life in Bogata, Texas, and married Sharon Davis Lewis October 5, 1968. From that union came six children. He worked at Lone Star Steel and was a long-time employee at the Talco Oil Field, then retired in 2019 after working at Walmart for 30 years. He had no problem telling you what was on his mind. Some would lovingly say “he had no filter”.
For the past 22 years, Joe was a faithful member of Full Gospel Church of Deliverance under Pastor Sharon Lewis. Throughout his last hours, Joe was singing, praising God, and making his family laugh.
He leaves to cherish his memory: His loving wife: Pastor Sharon Lewis; His children: Valerie (Greg) Francis; Dr. Amanda (Henry) Coleman; Jo (Daniel) Gay; Pastor Joe Lewis, Jr.; Edwina (Howard) Gilbert and Bessie Lewis; His grandchildren: Dr. Candra’ Hepburn, Jasmine (Devin) McDonald, Christian Howard, Gregory Francis, Germaine Francis, J’Coyia Lewis, Howard Gilbert and Edward Gilbert; His great-grandchildren: Nylah McDonald, Jordyn McDonald and Keyston McDonald; Siblings: Gavin (Faye) Lewis, Jr., Chris Lewis, Andy Lewis, Billy (Shirley) Lewis, Pamela (Terry) Welch.
