Obituary
Julia A. Hurndon Lewis was born March 2, 1923 in Mount Pleasant, Texas as the 5th of 9 children to the parentage of Preston and Eppie Gholston Hurndon.
Julia attended Booker T. Washington High School in Mount Pleasant. After graduating from High School, she also received her bachelor of Arts Degree from Texas College in 1942. As well as in 1958, she graduated from Texas Southern University with a Masters of Education. She was an active member of Progressive Women’s Club in Mount Pleasant, Texas.
Julia was a dedicated educator in several counties in East Texas after 42 Years, she retired from Mt. Pleasant School District. Where she believed “Every Child Can and will Learn.”
Julia met and was joined in marriage to Willard Lewis for 49 Loving years.
Julia was a faithful member for over 60 years at Sheppard Street Church of Christ until her death. Julia was an enjoyable lady who talked to everyone and shared many laughter with whomever was in her company. She was generous, kind hearted, and would do whatever she could to help anyone. She loved spending time with her loving children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents Preston and Eppie Hurndon, her loving husband Willard Lewis, Three sons: Wilford, James Earl, and Ocie Lewis. Four Sisters: Emma Jean Wheeler, Anna Elizabeth Park, Serelda Peoples, Bebbie Jones, and two Brothers: Morris and George Hurndon.
Julia leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Joyce Cecelia Lewis, and Chandra (Dennis) Parker both of Dallas, Tx. Two Daughter in Laws, Linda Lewis of Mount Pleasant, Texas, and Katrina Lewis of Desoto, Texas. Two sisters: Murlean Scales of Long Beach, California and Helen Evans of Mount Pleasant, Texas. Eleven Grandchildren, Kareem Roney, Michelle Lewis-Smith, Frances Nicole Lewis, Jonathan (Rochelle) Parker, Amber Anthony, Crystal (Derek) Cromer, Marcus (Kodi) Rowden, Jennifer (Christopher II) Jankins, Pilan Lewis, Jasmine Parker, and Kristian Lewis. 19 Great- Grandchildren, 3 Great-Great Grandchildren. A special cousin and friend Dorothy Barrier and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
After 98 years, Julia's life journey reached her destination on June 13th, 2021 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. She will be missed by all the people that knew and loved her.
