Bro. Richard Arlyn Barrett was born August 18, 1939 in Mt. Vernon, TX to Fletcher and Dolly (Rutherford) Barrett. Bro. Barrett passed away, peacefully at home on Sunday, April 23, 2023. He attended Denton Elementary in Mt. Vernon, Texas and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in 1959 of Mt. Pleasant, Texas
He met his Bride Linda Faye Hatcher while attending high school, after both graduated they married in March of 1962, to this union they were blessed with two children Richard Darrell and Cherilyn Barrett
At an early age he accepted Jesus Christ where he served until his health failed.
He was a member of the Denton Baptist Church until his health failed, and even with his failing health for the last month he was still carrying out his duties on his sick bed as co-chairman of the deacon board for the last 5 years.
Other offices he served in, included chairman of the Deacon Board, president of the usher board, treasure of the male chorus, and record keeper for the Finance Department. Bro. Barrett was a dedicated member of Cypress District Association serving first district as treasurer for many years until his passing. Loving and serving Christ as he did, he always enjoyed traveling, he and his wife to the other church services, and enthused whenever the Gospel was preached. Bro. Barrett was also a member of Holy City Lodge #271
He worked for the Texas Department of Public Safety for 10 years and finished his 10 years at Luminant Mining Company where he retired rendering 20 years of service.
Richard leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 61 years Linda(Hatcher)Barrett; His son Richard D. Barrett (Sandray) of Dallas, Tx; His daughter Cherilyn Rape (Kevin) of Mt. Pleasant, Tx; One Brother William Barrett of Mt. Pleasant, Tx; One Brother-in-law Alvin Hatcher(Darlene) of Mt. Vernon, Tx; Two Sisters- in- law Dianna Gale Bozeman of Pittsburg, Tx; and Peggy Hatcher of Sulphur Springs, Tx; Two grandchildren Mistarya Brigham of Mt. Vernon, Tx; and Legend Barrett of Dallas, Tx; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
