Roy D. Ivory was born August 9, 1932 to Plummie D. and Kathleen (Ross) Ivory, in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Mr. Ivory died, peacefully, at home in Mt. Pleasant, on Monday August 17, 2020,
Roy, was an active member of the Sheppard Street Church of Christ, Mt. Pleasant. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, Mt. Pleasant Class of 1949 and enlisted in the United States Army in 1951. He met his loving wife Shirley Howard and they joined in marriage in 1955. He was employed as a supervisor with Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation before beginning his career with Lone Star Steel as an equipment operator and where he retired in 1994. “Hawk”, as he was fondly called by his family and friends, was well known for spreading holiday cheer with his illustrious display of Christmas lights and music. People would come from miles around just to see and to get into the holiday spirit. He was awarded by the City of Mt. Pleasant for his achievements.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his son Billy Clark Ivory, brother Willie Green, sisters Nancy Lee and Thelma Brown.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 64 years Shirley Ann Ivory of Mt. Pleasant, two sons and daughters-in-law Edward and Debbie Ivory of Willingboro, NJ, Derrick and Bridget Ivory of Texarkana, Texas; along with seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
