In Loving Memory of Shearlyn Kaye Miller Best
November 7, 1955 – June 14, 2026
Shearlyn Kaye Miller Best was born on November 7, 1955, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, to the late Eugene and Mary Miller. She departed this life peacefully on June 14, 2026, leaving a legacy of faith, service, compassion, and love. Shearlyn attended school in Mt. Pleasant and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School with the Class of 1974. She continued her education at Prairie View A&M University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1977. For many years, Shearlyn dedicated her life to educating and advocating for children with special needs. She was passionate about helping her students reach their fullest potential, teaching essential life skills such as grocery shopping, budgeting, and independent living while ensuring they received the educational opportunities they deserved. A woman of strong faith, Shearlyn was a devoted member of Greater Love Baptist Church in Austin, Texas. She faithfully served on the Women’s Day Committee, assisted senior citizens in learning technology skills, and volunteered through the church food pantry to support families in need. Her caring spirit and willingness to serve touched many lives. Family and friendship were at the center of Shearlyn’s life. She cherished time spent with loved ones and looked forward each year to traveling with her lifelong friends, a treasured group she affectionately called “The Gathering of Friends.” Their bond, formed during childhood, remained a source of joy, laughter, and lasting friendship throughout the years. Shearlyn also shared a special bond with her beloved service dog, King. More than a companion, King was a source of comfort, protection, and unconditional love. Rarely seen apart, the two shared a connection that brought Shearlyn happiness and companionship each day. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Mary Miller; her brother, Rickey Eugene Miller; her sister, Patricia Ann Cornelius; and her granddaughter, Jasmine Laurent. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Marcus Best of Austin, Texas; Kevin Best and wife Ebonie Best of Austin, Texas; and Quincy Best of Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Kevin Best, Jr., Kamrin Best, and Naqell Best, all of Austin, Texas, and Patience Best of Corpus Christi, Texas. She was also a devoted great-grandmother to Kevin Best III, affectionately known as “Three.” She also leaves her sister and brother-in-law, LaWyanda and Joe Prince of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were blessed by her kindness, wisdom, and love. Though she will be deeply missed, Shearlyn’s legacy of faith, service, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23
