Willie Lee (Slim) Young was born December 29, 1943 to Ranzo and Susie (Mae) Field) Young in Ashdown, Arkansas.
Willie moved from Arkansas to Littlefield, Texas where he met and married Minnie King. To this union two children were born James (King) Young and Teresa Young.
For a number of years, Willie better known as Slim was united with the Mt. Gilmore Baptist Church where he sang with the Mt. Gilmore Gospel Chorus. In his spare time, you could find Slim in a boat in the middle of the lake. He would spend countless hours fishing, he and his fishing buddy Twilver Thompson. Oh, the stories those two would tell. If he wasn’t fishing, you could find him slapping them dominoes shouting ten pen. He was employed many years with Lone Star Steel.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his son James Young, brother Ranzo Young, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memories a daughter Teresa Young of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; 8 grandchildren Niketa Wilder (Ben), James Wilder (Amanda), Akeem Young, Akilay Young, Jamietris Simpson, Isaiah, Desiree, and Elijah Avila; 4 great grandchildren Nakalay Williams, Marisa, James Jr., and Minna Wilder; one great great grandchild Tamara Ivory along with special friend and caretaker Mark Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
